Chris Huggard
Chris Huggard is a proud product of the Blue Valley School District. Growing up in a military family, Chris landed in Overland Park and began attending Harmony Middle School as a 7th grader in 2002 and graduated from Blue Valley Northwest in 2008. After graduation, Chris attended Kansas State University and graduated in December of 2012 with a degree in education. Later in his career, he obtained a degree in Building Leadership from the University of Kansas in 2018.
Chris’ professional career in Blue Valley began during student teaching when he was placed in Deb Brockus’ 7th grade ELA class at Aubry Bend Middle School. This is where Chris found his calling to work with and help mentor middle school students as they progress through this awkward and sometimes difficult time in their lives. After student teaching, Chris taught writing for one year at Louisburg Middle School before returning home to Aubry Bend to teach 6th Grade ELA where he helped transition anxious students and families into middle school for the last twelve years.
This is Chris’s first year transitioning out of the classroom and into administration. While the choice to leave the classroom was not an easy one to make, the opportunity to be an assistant principal this school year and work directly with the families and faculty that Chris has grown up working with was a dream come true. After this year, he will continue to help transition many of those families when he moves on to be the inaugural assistant principal at Blue Valley’s newest middle school, Wolf Springs Middle School, when it opens in the 2026-2027 school year.
Chris has spent his entire career in Blue Valley engaging and helping this community and is excited for the opportunity to do so in this new position. He believes that school should be a place where students feel welcome, supported, and encouraged to pursue passions.
