Hello!

My name is Ryan Colburn, and I am the principal of Leawood Middle School.  Go Eagles!  By way of introduction, I have twenty-five years of experience in the education field, beginning as a mathematics teacher and coach and continuing, most recently, as an assistant principal.  I am a proud third generation Jayhawk with a Bachelor's degree in mathematics education from KU and two Master’s degrees from Baker University, one in school leadership and one in education.

My wife nd I have been married for 24 years and we have two awesome kids.  My daughter will continue her pharmacy studies at KU this fall and my son will be a senior in high school, playing basketball and lacrosse.  In my spare time, I like running, time with my family, watching many different sporting events, and traveling when time permits.

I really enjoy working with middle school students.  This is such an important time in the lives of kids and in their development, and so I look forward to the opportunity to help guide students through this amazing time in their lives. I intend to be out in the halls and in the classrooms getting to know our students individually as much as possible and to see the incredible learning taking place throughout the building.  As the school year begins, I'll look forward to meeting many Eagle students and their families as well.
