Blue Valley students identify 102 different languages as their primary home language with almost 14 percent of students reporting a home language other than English. The top non-English home languages reported include Spanish, Telugu, Chinese, Arabic, Urdu and Hindi.

Blue Valley Schools is committed to examining multiple perspectives and working to prepare all members of the Blue Valley community to thrive in a diverse world. The district's diversity team leads Blue Valley's efforts toward culturally responsive schools. This work was affirmed when The Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council awarded The Table of Faiths Award to Blue Valley Schools for 2016. The award recognizes an organization that is visible in the community, is making a positive difference in building relationships with diverse religious groups and promotes a pluralistic vision.

LOCATION

Unified in 1965, Blue Valley Schools encompasses 91 square miles in southeastern Johnson County in portions of south Overland Park, Leawood and Olathe. These cities have been recognized in many national quality-of-life rankings. Money magazine named Overland Park one of the Best Places to Live in 2018.

Blue Valley Schools is home to more than 54,000 residential housing units. Approximately 75 percent of the units are single-family dwellings and 25 percent are duplexes/condos/multi-family housing. The average household size in Blue Valley is 2.67 residents.

Nearly half of Blue Valley residents are under the age of 40, with a significant portion of the population in the 20 to 44-year-old age group. The median age of Blue Valley's residential population in 2018 was 42.1 years old. The median income of all Blue Valley households is $116,934. According to information derived from the Johnson County Appraiser's Office, the average value of single-family residences in the school district is approximately $476,147.
