Children who reside in the Blue Valley School District and turn 5 years of age by August 31 are eligible to attend kindergarten that school year. 

The K-5 program provides developmentally-appropriate experiences for academic and social growth, including reading and language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, art, music, physical education, health and technology education. 

The YMCA provides family-paid before- and/or after-school care at all Blue Valley elementary schools.

A Note About Integrated Literacy + Structured Literacy (iLit+)

In the elementary curricular documents below, the term iLit+ refers to Blue Valley’s adopted curriculum for English Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. The shortened name, iLit+, is short for Integrated Literacy + Structured Literacy.  The term “structured literacy” refers to an approach to reading instruction that explicitly teaches students the essential skills for reading. Based on the science of reading, it includes phonemic awareness and phonics instruction. Structured literacy is an evidence-based approach to learning how to read that is systematic, sequential, explicit and multisensory. The term “integrated literacy” refers to using literacy and reading as a backbone for science and social studies learning. It is in this portion of the curriculum where where students learn most of their ELA standards in writing and comprehension. Research suggests that this integrated style of learning results in more relevancy, engagement and depth of learning for students.
