RESIDENT TRANSFERS
-
Blue Valley Schools recognizes that the opportunity to transfer schools is a valuable resource for those who have unique personal, social or academic needs. The district is committed to preserving the opportunity for all students while maintaining the integrity of programs within our schools.
Transfers must be requested for any student who wishes to attend a school other than the school to which they are assigned. Requests are considered under exceptional circumstances and for justifiable reasons.NEXT YEAR TRANSFERS
Transfer requests for the following school year are accepted between Jan. 15 and April 1. The Transfer Review Committee reviews all student transfer request forms. If approved, the transfer typically begins the first day of the following school year.
CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR TRANSFERS
Requests for current school year transfers are only considered in extraordinary circumstances. To request a transfer, please complete the online transfer application. If unable to complete the online application, please contact the student transfers office. Transfer requests are considered on the basis of the educational needs and interests of the students as well as the educational needs and interests of the students in the sending and receiving schools.

RESIDENT TRANSFER CONSIDERATIONS
Students and families requesting a transfer may be asked to meet with
administration at the student's current school and/or the school in which they wish to transfer to discuss their request. Other transfer considerations include:- Requests received after April 1 will be reviewed in August after the registration period ends. Occasionally decisions regarding requests made prior to April 1 may also need to wait until the August registration period is completed.
- Once a student has been approved for a transfer, it is not necessary to renew that transfer in order for the student to remain in the requested feeder system.
- Bus service cannot be provided to students attending school outside his/her attendance area.
- Transfer decisions are based on available classroom space, not overall building enrollment. Occasionally buildings may be closed to all incoming transfer requests.
- Requests are reviewed on a case-by-case, first-come-first-served basis. Please apply for a transfer as early as possible.
- A transfer approval does not automatically apply to siblings. Siblings must apply separately for transfers.
- An applicant's schedule may vary depending on class availability at the new school he/she will be attending.
- Parents/guardians are responsible for requesting enrollment fee refunds from their current school.
- Blue Valley Schools reserves the right to suspend or revoke a transfer approval at any time.
- Board policy denies transfer from a newly-opened school until the end of the first semester of that school year.
- All high school students who transfer will be subject to all eligibility rules of the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) and the Blue Valley Board of Education. KSHSAA's guidelines can be found online. Questions about this should be directed to the transfer school's activity/athletic director.
- The Facilities and Operations department will communicate a transfer request decision via email or by phone.
