PARENTS AS TEACHERS INFANTS - AGE 36 MONTHS
Being a parent is the most important job there is. The free, voluntary Blue Valley Parents as Teachers program is designed to help district families with children birth to age 36 months.
From the beginning, the Blue Valley Parent Educators support parents with the knowledge and skills to do a good job. As their child's first teachers, parents make a difference.
For parents with a concern about their child's development, hearing or vision, the district provides access to monthly screenings for all children. Registration in the Parents as Teachers program is limited. -
EARLY CHILDHOOD AGES 36 MONTHS - 5 YEARS
The Peer Model Program provides an opportunity for typically- developing children to be integrated into our Early Childhood Special Education classrooms to serve as role models for our children with special needs.
Peer Model students provide positive peer interactions, demonstrate play skills and model appropriate language and behavior for children with special needs while in the classroom setting. We have a limited number of slots available for Peer Models. -
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GRADES K-5
Children who reside in the Blue Valley School District and turn 5 years of age by August 31 are eligible to attend kindergarten that school year.
The K-5 program provides developmentally-appropriate experiences for academic and social growth, including reading and language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, art, music, physical education, healthand technology education.
The YMCA provides family-paid before- and/or after-school care at all Blue Valley elementary schools. -
MIDDLE SCHOOL GRADES 6-8
Middle school is designed to meet the diverse intellectual, social, physical and emotional needs of young adolescents. Academic programs include science, social studies, mathematics, reading and language arts, health and physical education.
Additionally, middle school students choose from an exploratory program, including speech and drama, pre-engineering, family and consumer sciences, computer technology, world language, visual art, vocal music, bandand orchestra. -
HIGH SCHOOL GRADES 9-12
All of Blue Valley's high schools offer a comprehensive secondary program accredited by the state of Kansas. High school students must successfully complete 24 units for graduation. A full program of interscholastic, athletic and activities are available. Teams compete in the Eastern Kansas League. Students may also participate in performing arts, debateand forensics, cheerleading/drill team, student leadership, clubs, journalism and honor society.
ASSESSMENT AND PERFORMANCE

STATE PERFORMANCE
KAP
Blue Valley students in grades 3-8 and 10 will participate in the Kansas Assessment Program (known as KAP) in the areas of English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. Students in grade 5, 8, and 11 are tested in Science. Starting in 2021-22, students are also given one classroom-based Social Studies state assessment in grades 4, 7, and 11. NATIONAL PERFORMANCE (MAP, AP, ACT, SAT)
MAP
Blue Valley students participate in multiple assessment programs that provide benchmarks for national-level performance. Students in grades 2-8 take the NWEA MAP assessment in both reading and math. This assessment provides instructional data for teachers and measures individual student growth over time. Blue Valley students continue to show growth above what is predicted on a national average.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP)High school students may choose to participate in the Advanced Placement examination program. These exams are offered after completion of an Advanced Placement course and are normed at a national level. Colleges and universities may accept credit for scores on these exams as evidence of completion of designated coursework.
ACT
Blue Valley’s ACT composite average for 2021 graduates was 24.2 with 1,731 testers. The state of Kansas average was 19.6 and the national average was 20.3.
SAT
2021 Blue Valley graduates recorded another year of strong SAT scores while exceeding state and national averages. Blue Valley students scored an average of 1332 on the test that measures math and evidence-based reading and writing. In Kansas, the average is 1243 and nationwide the average is 1060 out of a possible 1600. Blue Valley had 123 students take the SAT in 2021, which accounts for 17% of all testers in Kansas.
GRADUATE PERFORMANCE
The National Student Clearinghouse provides information about Blue Valley graduates. The percentage of Blue Valley students enrolling, remaining and graduating from college continue to be well above the national average. This college-readiness data is complemented by the high percentage of students who participate in college-credit bearing courses during their experience at the various Blue Valley high schools.
